These 3 Zodiac Signs Are the Jo March of Their Friend Group

When I was around 12 years old, a distant cousin sent me a copy of the book Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I devoured the book and immediately connected with the main character, Jo March. Jo had her own dreams, new ideas, and no desire to be defined by a relationship or marriage. While a few series and movie adaptations of the book exist, the version that really captured my love for Jo March was the 2019 film by Greta Gerwig, starring Saoirse Ronan as the aspiring writer. Jo March is a complex character who, even in a period piece, remains relatable in our modern world as she defies the path society has carefully laid out for her.

To be the Jo March of your friend group means you’re always working toward your own goals but will stop at nothing to support your friends as well. It means you’ll speak the truth, even when it’s hard to do so. It means you’re walking down a path less traveled and loving every minute of it. You might be a little stubborn, yet you’re constantly learning and growing. Part of the reason why I first thought Jo was so relatable was because she never fit into a single box. In fact, throughout her story, Jo is so dynamic that she taps into the core essence of several zodiac signs. Are you the Jo March of your friend group? You might be if you’re one of these signs:

Aries

aries

Like the Aries of any friend group, Jo is never afraid to say what she thinks. Whether she’s with her sisters, her aunt, or a colleague, Jo is ready to have a conversation, even if it means stepping into conflict. When Laurie proposes to Jo in the Greta Gerwig adaptation of Little Women, she utters what could very well be an Aries daily affirmation: “I can’t say yes truly, so I’m not going to say it at all.” Jo knows the power of saying no. Similarly, the Aries of a friend group is not afraid to say no to small commitments, like group plans, or larger commitments, like marriage. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. And that’s OK.

Another classic Aries trait that drives Jo’s choices is her dedication to her work and dreams of pursuing creative writing. She’s not afraid to take risks, even if it means she might fail at first. Despite constant pushback from family and friends who feel she shouldn’t focus on her career, she keeps writing. Jo is the person in the friend group who inspires everyone else to take chances. However, she also needs to learn that not everyone will be as focused on achieving their dreams as she is. As with any ambitious Aries, Jo learns it’s important to give friends and family the space to be on their own journeys.

Scorpio

scorpio

If you’re a Scorpio, you’re likely incredibly in touch with your emotions. Some may see this as sensitivity, but it’s actually a superpower to understand your own feelings and simultaneously intuit the feelings of others. Like a Scorpio, Jo is constantly analyzing the experiences of her mother, sisters, and friends. She feels a lot, although she often needs reflection time, in the form of writing or solitude, to truly process her emotions. If you’re constantly cocooning when you’re overwhelmed by your life, you are certainly on your way to being the Jo March of your friend group. However, you will emerge brighter and more focused when you give yourself that time to be alone.

The Scorpio of the friend group is also the person everyone turns to for wisdom and honesty. Jo’s sisters know that if they need a direct opinion about their lives, she’s the one to go to. Even if they don’t ask for her opinion, Jo will give it, but it always comes from a place of love. Jo may seem stubborn at times, but it’s all driven by a desire to feel seen and heard. If you’re the Jo March of your friend group and you’re a Scorpio, you might not be the friend that’s at every event, but when you are, it’s appreciated and noticed.

Sagittarius

sagittarius

Wanderlust is a way of life for a Sagittarius, whether that be through travel, creative pursuits, or daily adventures. Jo eventually makes her way to New York City to work as a governess and pursue her dream to be a writer. She learns that life experience is the best creative inspiration, which any Sagittarius lives by. The Jo March of the group is the friend who is always looking for their next adventure. They’re also constantly planning a party or group trip for their friends. Because of this, they thrive on being uncomfortable and taking risks. They recognize that through the discomfort comes true transformation and earned wisdom.

Jo is most often defined in Little Women by her wisdom and passion, both very common traits in a Sagittarius. If you’re the friend who’s always reading books, analyzing all of the current trends, and lighting up the group chat with a passionate opinion or two, you might just be the Jo March among your friends. While Jo’s fierce commitment may lead her to make some hasty decisions, she eventually learns that every step she took led her to exactly where she needed to be. Like Jo, Sagittarius will always find their way back to their friend group, even if they aren’t in the same time zone.
