Simone Biles missed out on a balance beam medal at the Paris Olympics on Monday morning, in a shock result that saw Italy’s Alice D’Amato win gold.
Biles, 27, fell off the beam when attempting to do a back handspring into two back layouts. But she slipped after the one layout, costing her the chance to secure a fourth medal in Paris.
Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, expected to be Biles’ main competition, also missed out on a medal, with 21-year-old D’Amato winning Italy’s first ever Olympic gold in women’s gymnastics.
But it’s not all over for Biles in Paris: she is currently competing in the floor exercise final in the final event of her campaign. She is attempting to win her eleventh Olympic medal — and eighth gold.
