Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Joao Neves from Benfica.
The Athletic reported last week that the deal had been agreed with PSG paying a fee in the region of €60million (£50.56m; $64.86m) with an extra €10m in potential add-ons for Neves. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year deal with PSG.
“I’m very proud to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, a very ambitious club. I’m going to give my all to help my team-mates, to grow at this fantastic club and to win numerous titles,” said Neves, who will wear the number 87 shirt.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi said: “We are delighted to welcome João Neves to the Paris Saint-Germain family. João is one of most talented players in Portugal and internationally. He was so passionate to join Paris Saint-Germain and determined to fight for the jersey — which is what we expect of all our players.
“We continue to build a fantastic young team at Paris Saint-Germain — based on teamwork, talent and collective spirit — which is the foundation of our club’s great future.”
Neves has played 75 times for Benfica since making his debut in January 2023. Last term, he featured in all but one of Benfica’s Primeira Liga matches as they finished second and was named in the team of the season. The midfielder has been capped nine times by Portugal and featured twice at the European Championship earlier this summer.
