NBA commissioner Adam Silver will speak to the media following the board of governors meeting on Wednesday, the league announced. Here’s what you need to know:
- The news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
- The board of governors is expected to vote on a new policy that a team is unable to rest two star players in the same game, according to league sources. The league’s current rules prohibit teams from resting healthy players “for any high-profile, nationally televised game” and say teams should not rest multiple healthy players for the same game.
- The new policy states that teams must ensure star players are available for national television and In-Season Tournament games. They must also maintain a balance between the number of one-game absences for a star player in road and home games, with a preference for such absences to occur at home.
What else is being voted on at BOG
Also on the agenda, according to league sources, is a vote on a change to the game protest rules. For playoff games or a game played on the last day of the season, it must be filed no later than 10 hours following the game. The league may set an expedited process for processing protest and a $25,000 fee for game protest, up from the current $10,000.
