Manchester City are weighing up a move for Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi.
City are aiming to replace Julian Alvarez, who signed for Atletico Madrid for £82million ($107m), with a player who is prepared to accept a squad role at the Etihad Stadium.
They have whittled down their search to Kyogo, 29, and one other younger forward.
City are pressing ahead with the re-signing of Ilkay Gundogan and will dedicate their attention to that deal until it is finalised. Only then will they attempt to complete this summer’s business and decide whether to push ahead with plans to sign a striker.
Kyogo has caught their eye and it is understood that personal terms would not be a problem — if he is the final choice — given the Japan international’s desire to move to City.
Kyogo was signed by former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, who previously coached Yokohama F Marinos, one of the clubs in the City Football Group.
He missed Celtic’s Scottish League Cup game against Hibernian on Sunday with a shoulder injury. Since joining Celtic in 2021, Kyogo has scored 73 goals in 135 games since joining Celtic in 2021.
