FC Copenhagen talent Roony Bardghji out for 9-12 months after knee injury

FC Copenhagen prospect Roony Bardghji has sustained a serious knee injury and faces nine to 12 months out.

Copenhagen confirmed the 18-year-old had suffered the issue in training ahead of his side’s Championship play-off round game against Silkeborg on Sunday.

Bardghji is one of Europe’s most highly-rated talents, who profiles as a tricky left-footed winger. Speaking to The Athletic in January, Bardghji expressed his desire “to become the best player in the world”.

“We all feel for Roony, and everyone in and around the club will do everything we can to help him back on the pitch again,” Copenhagen sporting director Peter Christiansen said.

“Right now he needs to take it easy to process this message, but we all know him as a dedicated and deeply serious footballer who we know will come back even stronger.”

Bardghji made his Danish Superliga debut for Copenhagen six days after his 16th birthday in November 2021, with league rules preventing him from doing so before that age. He has played 78 times for Copenhagen across all competitions, scoring 15 goals.

This season, Bardghji has netted seven times in 23 Superliga games. The Sweden Under-21 international also scored against Manchester United in Copenhagen’s 4-3 Champions League group-stage win in November.

“Right now our focus is to help Roony and being good leaders and team-mates so he can get all the support he needs,” Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup added.

“He is in the best hands with our medical staff, and we know that he will work hard with his rehabilitation and display his great talent when he is ready again.”
