Elon Musk’s SpaceX has purchased an advertising package on Elon Musk’s Twitter

Although a lot of brands have already announced advertising pauses on Twitter following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company, Musk’s SpaceX has purchased a new ad purchase.

Musk confirmed Monday via Twitter that SpaceX bought a package to promote its Starlink internet service. However, he did not disclose the amount of the purchase.

This would be Musk’s first ad purchase, even Tesla, which doesn’t engage in traditional advertising.

Musk replied to one Twitter user by writing, “SpaceX Starlink purchased a small – but not large – ad package to test the effectiveness of Twitter advertising” and adding that he had done the same for competitors like Instagram, Google, and Facebook.

After a Sunday report that Musk had ordered one of the largest advertising packages from Twitter for SpaceX, his comments were made following unnamed sources having viewed internal documents related.

Some civil rights groups have demanded an advertiser boycott of Twitter in the weeks following Musk’s Twitter takeover. They cited concerns about the direction of the platform under its new owner and reported that hate speech incidents have increased on the platform.

General Mills, North Face, and many car companies that compete with Musk’s Tesla have all announced they will stop advertising on social media networks. Musk claimed earlier this month that the declining spending of advertisers has caused a “massive decline in revenue.”

Musk spent his first weeks as Twitter’s CEO pleading for advertisers to stay on the platform. He also worked to make the platform less dependent on ad dollars by offering more subscription options and the controversial option of payment verification. This feature led to an influx of accounts impersonating well-known brands on Twitter.
