Crystal Palace sign Genk defender Daniel Munoz in €8.1m deal

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of defender Daniel Munoz from Genk in a deal worth €8.1million (£6.9m).

There are no add-ons included in the deal for the Colombian right-back, who has signed a contract with Palace through to 2027 with the option of a further year.

The 27-year-old moved to Genk in 2020 and has gone on to be a consistent presence in the side, making over 120 appearances. This season, he has played 17 games and scored five goals.

“It’s a pleasure for me to be here at such a historic club, such a big club as Crystal Palace,” Munoz told Palace club media.

“I’m very excited, very happy, and I can’t wait to be on the pitch.

“I think it’s a dream come true for me and I hope to be up to the task.”

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “We are delighted to welcome a player of Daniel’s quality and character to the club.

“He has experience at the highest level for club and country, and he possesses an impressive record going forwards for a full-back. I am certain his ability, athleticism and tenacity will be a huge boost to the squad for the remainder of the season, and beyond.”

Palace have been looking for reinforcements for the right-back position as captain Joel Ward has a long-term injury and is out of contract at the end of the season, as is Nathaniel Clyne.

Last week, Palace saw their £18.5m bid for Blackburn Rovers midfielder rejected.

Palace have won just one of their past 12 matches in all competitions and are 15th in the Premier League.
