Crystal Palace agree Maxence Lacroix fee with Wolfsburg

Crystal Palace have agreed a fee to sign defender Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg.

Palace will pay an initial €18million for the 24-year-old, with a potential €3m due in add-ons. The Premier League side have not yet agreed personal terms with Lacroix.

The deal for Lacroix comes amid uncertainty over centre-back Marc Guehi’s future at Palace. The England international has been the subject of multiple bids from Newcastle United.

Palace have already allowed one first-choice defender to depart this summer, with Joachim Andersen re-joining Fulham last week for a fee worth up to £30m including add-ons.

Palace left playing risk and reward with Guehi and Andersen as deadline day looms

Chadi Riad signed for Palace earlier this summer, having spent last season on loan at Real Betis from Barcelona, but the Moroccan centre-back sustained an injury just 10 minutes into his side’s Carabao Cup second-round game against Norwich City on Tuesday night and had to be withdrawn.

Lacroix, meanwhile, was a key player for Wolfsburg last season. He made 28 appearances, missing five games through suspension, as they finished 12th in the Bundesliga.

The Frenchman was left out of Wolfsburg’s squad for their opening league match last weekend as they lost 3-2 at home against Bayern Munich.

Lacroix joined Wolfsburg from Sochaux in 2020 and has played 130 times for the German club.
