Bears DB Douglas Coleman III stretchered off field in preseason game vs. Chiefs

Chicago Bears safety Douglas Coleman III was stretchered off the field during the team’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday.

On the opening snap of the third quarter, Coleman tried to make a tackle on Chiefs receiver Cornell Powell on the perimeter of the field when he fell to the turf. Coleman was motionless for several minutes while trainers and medical staff from both teams attended to him. Coleman was stabilized and put on a stretcher. He was then put into the back of an ambulance and taken from the field.

Coleman’s injury is not yet known. After sustaining it, the entire Bears sideline crossed the field to support their teammate and take a knee.

Coleman played two years in the Canadian Football League in 2022 and 2023, appearing in 22 games for the Ottawa Redblacks. There, he recorded 78 tackles, 5.0 sacks, three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns.

The 26-year-old out of Texas Tech signed with Broncos in 2020 as an undrafted free agent but was cut at the end of training camp.
