Anthony Gordon is not currently considering switching allegiance to represent Scotland at international level.
Gordon has been one of Newcastle United’s key performers this season, establishing himself as the Premier League club’s first-choice left winger and matching last campaign’s goal and assist tallies after just three months.
This form follows a summer in which he won player of the tournament for his performances for England at the Under-21 European Championships.
Having progressed through all the England age-groups, the 22-year-old is close to a call-up for the senior side — but was pipped into the squad for this week’s European Championship qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia by Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
Liverpool-born Gordon also qualifies for Scotland, who have been active in attempting to lure English-born talent into their international set-up — such as Manchester United’s Scott McTominay and Gordon’s Newcastle teammates Harvey Barnes, Elliot Anderson and Tino Livramento.
The Newcastle trio are still considering their international futures.
However, Gordon isn’t currently interested in exploring the possibility of playing for Scotland, with conversations not having taken place between the player and Scotland manager Steve Clarke.
England’s coaching staff are keeping close tabs on him, and value his versatility of being able to play across several forward and midfield positions.
Gordon could switch his international allegiance to Scotland as he has yet to be capped by England’s senior team.
FIFA rules also state that players can switch as long as they have made fewer than three senior appearances for one nation before the age of 21 and have not played for them for at least three years.
