Aces complete sweep of Storm behind complete performance, will face Liberty in WNBA semifinals

Playing defense against the Las Vegas Aces is akin to a game of Whac-a-Mole. For one game, Kelsey Plum is down, but then she pops back up to the tune of 29 points. Contain A’ja Wilson after an 18-point first half, and here comes Jackie Young, guns blazing after being scoreless before intermission.

The Aces’ core four of Wilson, Young, Plum, and Chelsea Gray is among the most talented groupings in WNBA history, if not the very best. The perimeter firepower of those four — including Wilson, who genuinely operates like a guard out of some actions — defies limits.

By the end of Game 2 in Las Vegas, the Seattle Storm were left helpless, prepared to do battle but with too many foes in front of them. Only five players scored for the Aces, but the volume of their contributions was enough to secure the 83-76 win and the two-game sweep. Las Vegas moves on to face New York in the semifinals, a rematch of the WNBA Finals one year ago.

Plum led the way with 29, making her first six baskets two days after she missed her first six. Wilson had 24 points and 13 rebounds, and Gray added 12 points and nine assists with a series of highlight reels to delight the home crowd.
