Using one of these Kodak Instant Print cameras to document the good, bad, and ugly of Thanksgiving

Some people get ready for Thanksgiving by buying food or cleaning the house or putting together a cute new outfit. Not me. I’m preparing by buying one of those cool instant-print camera so I can document my family chaos.

The camera I’ll be using is the Kodak Printomatic Instant Print Camera. There are a few reasons why. First, it’s on sale. Normally, this camera would be $106, but right now it’s $59.99. Second, I really want to have a physical piece of media I can hold a little slice of the day in my hand. Also they’re kind of retro and really cool and I wanted one anyway. Here’s how it’s going to go:

The plan

The camera’s small enough to fit in my pocket. Is this how secret agents feel? It must be.

I’m not planning on ambushing my family. I am simply a documentarian, and they are my lions on the savanna. I don’t need ink or printer access to document my findings. The Kodak Printomatic uses Kodak Zink Photo Paper, and the camera comes with a pack of them.

Maybe this year, I’ll finally be able to capture the speed with which my aunt can demolish a drumstick. You’d think a print camera would take forever to process photos, but I can just keep snapping them and it forms a little print queue.

Every year, my nephew tries to sneak into the kitchen to steal dessert before it officially begins. The Printomatic has 5MP resolution. Maybe that will be enough detail to capture his crimes in the act. Maybe he’ll get me a slice of pie.

Photos print with their own adhesive backing. Normal people might use this to stick all their cute pictures on the wall or on the fridge. I think I’m going to try to get an embarrassing photo of every family member and stick it to their back. We’ll see.

If you also want to sew chaos using the power of photography (or make some cute family memories), get a Kodak Printomatic Instant Print Camera for $59.99.
