Liverpool reveal 75 lifetime bans issued in battle over Anfield ticket touting

Liverpool issued 75 lifetime bans from Anfield over the course of last season in the ongoing battle over ticket touting.

The Premier League club has revealed it also imposed a further 136 indefinite suspensions and shut down close to 100,000 fake ticketing accounts.

A further 5,670 accounts are currently under review for suspicious activity, including supplying people who have recently been charged by Merseyside Police with fraud related to ticket touting.

The majority of lifetime bans and indefinite suspensions were handed down for unauthorised selling of season tickets, memberships or hospitality tickets.

Accounts were deactivated following investigations or blocked from sales due to suspicious online activity or after being identified as bots.

In total around 1,500 tickets were cancelled across the 2023-24 season and then made available for resale.

A club statement read: “This season the club has continued to increase its investment in anti-touting measures, including developing greater online protection, delivering more boots-on-the-ground operations, and dedicating more internal resources to take action.

“Supporters are reminded not to buy tickets from unofficial online channels or from unofficial sellers, as there has been an increase in the number of fans being defrauded, particularly online.”

In July, Liverpool had to suspend their ticket sale to members after falling victim to a cyber attack which they described as a “sustained, sophisticated bot attack… different in nature to those we have experienced before”.

The redeveloped Anfield Road Stand lifted the capacity to over 60,000 when it was completed earlier this year but demand still far exceeds supply.
