The Philadelphia Eagles may be without their top two wide receivers Sunday as they head down to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Eagles have already ruled out DeVonta Smith with a concussion, while A.J. Brown is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.
Smith was pulled from Philadelphia’s 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints in the fourth quarter after taking a high hit from Saints defensive tackle Khristian Boyd. Smith was able to leave the field under his own power.
Brown has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury after finishing the Eagles’ season opener with 119 yards and a touchdown on five receptions. Philadelphia’s top receiver did not participate in team practices Wednesday or Thursday but was a limited participant Friday.
“It’s going to take everybody,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said during a press conference Friday, when discussing the team’s depth at receiver. “It’s not, ‘Hey, here’s how we replace DeVonta [Smith]’s production.’ It’s gonna take the entire group to do that. And that’s the entire group — wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs — because obviously he’s a special player.”
Philadelphia has leaned on tight end Dallas Goedert and running back Saquon Barkley more as they continue to look for additional receiving options. Goedert saw a season-high 11 targets against New Orleans, catching 10 of those passes for 170 yards. Barkley posted a season-high 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 17 touches that same game.
The Eagles will have just three healthy wide receivers on the active roster headed into Sunday — Jahan Dotson, Parris Campbell, and Johnny Wilson. Britain Covey, Jacob Harris, and Ainias Smith are all currently on the team’s injured reserve.
