Kansas City Chiefs superfan Xaviar Babudar, better known as “ChiefsAholic,” was sentenced Thursday in federal court to 17 1/2 years in prison without parole for committing a string of 11 armed bank robberies or attempted robberies across the U.S., according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Missouri.
Babudar, who became famous by wearing a gray wolf suit to Chiefs games, also faces three years of supervised release upon his release, per multiple reports.
The 30-year-old reached a federal plea agreement in February after admitting he committed robberies in 2022 and 2023. He stole more than $800,000 and then laundered the money in casinos.
On May 24, 2023, Babudar was charged with one count of bank theft and one count of transporting stolen property across state lines after being a fugitive for four months.
Three months later, a federal grand jury indicted him on three counts of armed bank robbery, one count of bank theft, 11 counts of money laundering and four counts of transporting stolen property across state lines. Federal prosecutors said Babudar robbed banks and credit unions in Iowa, Tennessee, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
Court records alleged he used the money to travel, purchase Chiefs tickets and gamble on games.
A federal indictment said Babudar failed to report any wages earned in the states of Missouri or Kansas.
In exchange for a plea deal, more than a dozen charges against Babudar were dismissed. Additionally, he must pay at least $532,675 in restitution to the victims’ financial institutions and forfeit any property involved — including an autographed painting of Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes — to the government.
